PRESS RELEASE: A sunny race of A.Le Coq Moonsund regatta from Kärdla to Kuivastu felt like a lottery to many |
The first two races of the regatta were really tough due to big waves, strong winds and long distances but the morning of the fourth day showed a much kinder face. Sun, relaxed atmosphere and more than 20 degrees made the Monday morning very enjoyable indeed. Just that the slight and moody winds made the third leg of the regatta a lottery for most of the sailors.
Start to
the Kärdla - Kuivastu race was given at 11:00 ca seven miles from the shore.
More than a hundred yachts were sitting on a mirror-flat sea shimmering in the
sun. The western winds of 2-3 m/s made starting tricky and complicated both for
the team and the sailors. Folkboots set sail as planned but the starting line
had to be reorganised for the other groups as the wind had turned to the
north-west. Most of the road had to be raced in side winds leaving spinnakers
for the start of the race only.
The winner of the race in ORC II was Katarina Jee with Mart Tamm at the helm from Saaremaa Merispordi Selts. They were followed by Viljas Sepp’s team on Jazz who is now five points ahead of the competition and who shared the second place with Evelyn III and Kristen Pugi. There are 17 yachts racing in this group.
Saaremaa Merispordi Selts was victorious also in ORC III (11 yachts racing). Yacht Kadri with the team of Andres Haavel is now six points ahead of the others. The second to arrive was yacht Prizrak from Russia with Dmitrii Mostovoy and they are on the third place in overall. Yesterday’s third was yacht Lagle II with the youngest team of the regatta (Saaremaa Merispordi Selts).
ESTLYS I with 18 yachts has a very clear leader: yacht Mir from Russia with Aleksandr Kulikov has won all three races at the moment and they have an advantage of six points. Alar Ivanson’s team on Tessa (Kalev YC) was second and Latvian yacht Guru with Amis Remess was third.
The winner of ESTLYS II was Roman Mickewicz on Kolibri from Usmas YC in Latvia. Põhjatäht with Tanel Kurs from Pärnu YC and Harri Murd on Temper, also from Pärnu YC, were second and third respectively. The best in ESTLYS III was the all-girl team Kaija from Noblessner YC with Annika Malva at the helm. Only 33 seconds later came in the last year’s group winner Frida with Andres Kõnd’s team from Kalev YC. Lennusadam’s yacht Marielle with Vallo Kalvik remained third. This group is the largest with 28 yachts.
After nine
hours the first Folkboot to come in was Hard Perk’s Svea from Kalev YC. Olev
Oolup on Tuuli (Haapsalu YC) was second and Tee Chee with Peeter Välkmann (Neeme)
was third.
The evening
in Kuivastu was rainy but good local music, warm soup and award ceremony
sponsored by Saaremaa Juust cheered everybody up. The fourth race of the
regatta kicked off today at 10:00 with western winds of 9-10 m/s. Headwinds are
ahead and the first yachts will be expected to arrive in Roomassaare at 19:00
in the evening.
