PRESS RELEASE: Roomassaare – Kihnu Dermoshop leg of the A. Le Coq 60th Moonsund Regatta – no sleep and rough weather | 12 Jul 17, piret.salmistu

Strong headwind had turned to the west and reached gusts of 14-15 m/s. On top of keeping everyone up because of the “music” it was making in the masts and ropes, it was also playing around the entrance of the marina making it quite challenging for the boats to get out to the sea. There was also more than one collision in the struggle the consequences of which need maintenance after the regatta.

Later in the day the wind was also accompanied by its good friend rain but the good thing was that the strong winds sped the boats up and the race over the wavy waters was really fast and enabled high speeds.

In ORC I the fastest boat of the race was Olympic with Tiit Vihul at the helm from Yacht Club Dago. Sugar 2 and Jaan Akermann’s team were second leaving the three race winner Forte from Kalev Yacht Club under the firm direction of their skipper Jaak Jõgi third this time, although they still lead by one point overall.

A new leader emerged also in ORC II where My Car and skipper Harles Liiv from Kalev Yacht Club managed to cross the finish line first. The second and third places were taken by Jazz and Juss Ojala from Kalev Yacht Club and Matilda skippered by Erki Teras from Haapsalu Yacht Club respectively. After this race the overall leader of the group is Amserv Toyota Sailing Team, skipper Margus Zuravljov.

All three best teams in ORC III were from abroad, whereas Fart and Anatoly Shukanov from Russia is the overall leader of the group with four race wins now. Prizrak and Dmitry Mostovoi came in second and Reki with Karlis Kozlovskis at the helm from Latvia were third.

LYS I boat Sylvia, skippered by Aare Kööp, from Kalev Yacht Club was fastest in its group. Mart Tamme and Katariina Jee from Saaremaa Marine Sports Society were second and Kristaps Remess’ team on Lemans from Latvia third. The overall leader after this race is Katarina Jee.

All LYSII group winners come from Saaremaa Marine Sports Society this time. Margus Hiet’s team on Elli came in first, Guido Grass and Pinta and Rain Riim on Centaur were second and third respectively. However, the overall leader after this race is Brigitta from Kalev Yacht Club with Mikk Metstak at the helm.

For the second time the first prize in LYS III group belonged to yacht Kaija and Annika Malva’s team from Noblessner. Bella and Margus Melsas from Kalev Yacht Club came in second and Marielle and Vallo Kalvik from the same club third. The overall leader of the group is Pille Kaas on Aurora from Haapsalu Yacht Club.

The long and tough race of Folkboots was won by Kalev Yacht Club’s boats: Tiit Riisalo skippering Lind was first, Peeter Välkmann’s team on Tee Chee second and Muinasjutukuningas skippered by Jaanus Nõgisto third. The new overall leader is Lind as Linda, skippered by Pertti Neero, the favourite so far, broke its mast.

Hopefully they will be able to continue racing in a few days, though.

On Wednesday the race will proceed to Pärnu that will host the regatta for two days.
